Why we niched down
We kept finding the same three mistakes in law firm books.
Twenty Two Business Services has been keeping books for small businesses since 2006. Restaurants, contractors, consultants, trucking companies — the full range. Along the way we picked up law firms, and law firms turned out to be different in a way that mattered.
Not harder, exactly. Just governed by rules that general bookkeeping training never covers. Client money that is not yours. Costs you front and expect back. Revenue that arrives two years after the work. Every general bookkeeper who takes on a law firm learns these things eventually — usually on the firm's time, and occasionally on the firm's trust account.
So we split the practice. Law Books by 22 does one industry. The trust reconciliation is not a service we added; it is the reason the practice exists separately at all.
